Frequently asked questions
What is a Sleep Coach / Sleep Consultant?
A sleep consultant or sleep coach is someone who helps families create healthy sleep patterns for their kids, using a mix of science and personal experience to craft custom sleep plans that address specific challenges. Like waking up too often, short naps, only allowing one parent to put them down, or struggles with bedtime. They offer advice on various sleep training techniques, reassure parents, and provide ongoing support—all online for your convenience. The main goal is to help families enjoy peaceful nights and refreshed mornings, turning sleep into a positive experience for everyone! I have a blog about it here: What is a Sleep Consultant?
Why would someone hire a virtual Sleep Coach?
I understand that seeking help with pediatric sleep can be challenging. While a sleep training book can be helpful, it may not cover unique situations or specific questions. A compassionate sleep trainer is like an open book, ready to offer non-judgmental advice and support for your concerns. My personal goal is that when we are done working together, you feel more confident in your own abilities to get your child to sleep. I want to empower parents to take back the nights!
What do you offer that is different from anyone else?
I take the time to really listen and observe, knowing how important it is to see both the big picture and the small details when you're searching for that missing link. I understand that every family is unique, so I don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Many of the families who come to me have already visited in-person centers or worked with other sleep trainers. I truly listen to you about your family and understand your specific goals. While many sleep trainers aim for “sleeping through the night,” I believe sleep training is about so much more. My goal is to help you find the right path for now and give you the tools and confidence for the future. I hope I can be the last sleep trainer you ever need to contact!
What if I do not want to use any sleep training methods?
That is okay; I can still create a sleep plan for your child without sleep training methods. Instead, it will have healthy awake windows and ideal schedules and rhythms for your day.
What ages do you work with?
I specialize in caring for newborns and infants, but I can assist children of all ages. I only have one method that I prefer for older kids, but it's effective 75% of the time! My children are 12 and 9.
How quickly will I see results?
In most cases, parents notice significant changes in their child's sleep patterns within the first week of implementing the recommended strategies. Sometimes, these changes become apparent within the first couple of days. However, it's important to remember that every child is different, and results may vary. While I don't want to set unrealistic expectations, it's worth noting that many parents have reported a decrease from three nightly wake-ups to just one in the initial days of trying these methods.
At the end, are you just going to suggest I have my child cry it out?
Absolutely not. I have a wide range of effective methods to assist your child in learning to self-soothe and sleep independently. The "cry it out" approach is only utilized in a very limited number of cases, and I assure you that I would never insist on it if it doesn't align with your preferences. I will guide you through various techniques, and together we will select an approach that best suits your family. Furthermore, I will personalize the chosen method to specifically cater to your child's needs.
